This month I want to focus on writing all about how great Edinburgh and my neighbourhood of Leith is. I'll be leaving the city for six months over the winter so I feel I should write these posts now.
I've lived in Edinburgh for over 5 years now and I still love it since the day I moved down here.
This post is all about the best places to grab a beverage in Leith and these are my recommendations. The next post will be where to eat in Leith so stay tuned for that.
In Leith you will find more pubs and bars than clubs. If you want nightclubs then I suggest you head more into the centre of the city.
The Lioness of Leith
This bar/ bistro offer premium local and international drinks, they offer a range of cocktails made from bourbon whisky, vodka and tequila. They also stock a good selection of gins and wines. The decor in this place is very cool and industrial and they serve fresh burgers and waffles if you get hungry. They also offer 20% student discount on cocktails and week day lunches.
*21-25 Duke Street, Edinburgh. Open 12pm-1am.
The Port O’ Leith
An iconic Leith pub. The newly refurbished pub has a funky atmosphere which has good music and a good selection of craft beers and plenty other tipples to choose from. They have an extensive collection of over 50 different rums and 20 tequilas. This place has community spirit and attracts old and young alike.
Also if you are a Trainspotting fan you'll know all about this place...
*58 Constitution Street, Edinburgh. Open 12pm-1am.
A classic traditional pub that has stood proud since the 1400’s. The charming building has a cosy environment and they serve fine wines, cask ales and cocktails. They also offer gastro pub style food with daily specials on offer. However they are famed for their breakfast fry-ups!
This place is in a beautiful location right on The Shore which is somewhere you definitely need to explore.
*36 Shore, Edinburgh. Open11am-12pm.
This Swedish influenced bar is a wonderful place to hang out. They have a very quirky Grandmother chic style and offer draft beer, cocktails and wine. They offer a selection of books and board games and if you want a quiet night they offer freshly made coffee too!
They also have a sister pub - Boda Bar which has a similar vibe and offers quiz nights and themed evenings. Both of these establishments serve snacks, crisps and nuts, some of which are vegan. The bars also allow customers to bring in their own food or order their own takeaway.
Boda Bar *229 Leith Walk Open 2pm-1am
Sofi’s Bar *65 Henderson Street. Open 1pm-1am
Now, for those of you who know me well you will know exactly why I have included this place. The name was given to the pub because it was a former waiting room for the Leith to Aberdeen ferry. The traditional free-house offers a good selection of whiskies and Scottish cask beers.
I love coming down here in the summer time where they have a large beer garden and floating pontoon where you can spot the local Leith wildlife. They have an extensive food menu and some of the dishes are portioned into mugs - which to me is weird but nonetheless the food is tasty enough.
*1C Dock Place, Edinburgh. Open 10:30am - 1am.
Thanks for reading, if you have any suggestions feel free to leave them below. Cheers!
